Portrait of Ms Jessica Tan, Managing Director Microsoft Singapore and Member of Parliament East Coast GRC.
The shoot would be done at Microsoft Singapore with only 15 minutes shoot time allocated. The first thing that attracted me upon walking in was the interesting tech-looking decors on the wood wall, made up of multi-color light ‘dishes’. There was some natural light spilling in from an adjacent glass wall and tungsten lighting above the wood wall. I want to kill the ambient light for mood and for the multi-color light decors to stand out and after some quick test exposures it got about the right ambient balance.
I positioned two lights left and right of subject in a cross lighting setup. Normally with full length cross lighting you usually face the problem of having another set of shadows in the opposite direction, which feels unnatural. But here’s where the beauty of the Apollo softbox comes in – the softbox has built in flaps which greatly controls spill and direction which in this case, prevent it from casting a shadow on the floor. The result is a single shadow from the Photek Softlighter. The Softlighter on the other side, gives a pool of light that gently falls off in a circular shape on the floor. Here are the tear sheet scans.
